Case studies · Marketplace
A two-sided discounts marketplace for Amman, on iOS and Android — offers bought in the app, redeemed in the shop with a one-time code, across an Arabic interface built right to left.
The problem
A discounts app only works if both sides trust the code. The customer has to believe the offer will be honoured at the counter, and the business has to believe the code in front of them is real, unused, and theirs. Everything else in the product is in service of that one moment.
It also had to be an Arabic product rather than an English one translated. Right to left is not a text direction you switch on at the end — it is the direction of the whole interface: which way a row reads, which side a back arrow sits on, where a badge lands on a card. Building it that way from the first screen is the difference between an app that feels local and one that feels imported.
In the stores
Each side of the marketplace got its own app, designed and built by the same team so the three never disagree about the state of an order. Install figures and dates are what the listings showed on August 13, 2026.
Consumer app
Nearby offers on the home screen, browse by category, pay in the app and carry the redemption code to the counter.
Consumer app
The same product on the other store, with the same account, the same wallet of purchased offers and the same codes.
The work
The home screen leads with what is close, using the phone's location, so the first thing a user sees is something they could actually walk to today.
Education, health and wellness, beauty, men's services, travel, pet care, tickets and events, markets and retail — browsable by category across the whole city when proximity is not the point.
Card payment in the app generates a single-use redemption code. The business scans it, the offer closes, and it cannot be spent twice.
Email, Google or Apple sign-in, so buying the first offer is not gated behind inventing another password.
Layout, navigation, search and every card built RTL from the first screen rather than mirrored afterwards.
Registered businesses list offers, manage them and see redemptions come in — the supply half of the marketplace, without which the demand half is empty.

Process
The redemption code and its lifecycle agreed before any screen was drawn.
Arabic layout from the first commit, so nothing had to be mirrored later.
iOS and Android from one codebase, released and reviewed together.
Live in April 2026, version 3 by July — the product kept moving after launch.
Outcome
We did not want an English app with Arabic typed into it. They built it right to left from the first screen, and you can feel the difference the moment you open it. Both stores in three months, and the redemption code has not let a business down yet.
